Ex-Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has voiced out his opinion about the allegations of bribe for national team positions in Nigeria, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

The 2013 AFCON goal king alluded that the revelations from Chindeu Ogbuke Obasi should not be wished away because he did not just wake up to make such a huge statement.

“What chinedu said, he didn’t just wake up to say this. He has been having this thing in his mind he needs to take it out and if I see any ex-footballer that attacks Chinedu, I will attack the person back because he is saying the truth”.

Justifying why it took this long for Obasi to open up, the ex Fenerbache frontman said it woud help liberate current players as the trend still continues till date but the players cannot voice and it was about time a cleansing takes place.

Emenike said “we need to change this mentality in Nigeria. They take money and at the end of the day we won’t win anything for Nigeria. They keep taking money from player and when you say anything they attack you”.

The 32 year old reiterated that although he gave Late Stephen Keshi a cash gift from his commercial endorsement money (which Keshi rejected), he has never offered money to get a call-up.

He added that coaches should not be the only ones to be looked at, as other stakeholders are just as guilty.

“Sometimes it comes from the NFF. They bring players to the coach and tell him the player must play. A lot of things must change”.

Emenike helped Nigeria win the nations cup in 2013, finishing as the tourney’s top scorer with four goals and retired from international football in 2015.
